Nelson Mandela Is Hospitalized|Nelson Mandela first black president of South Africa

NELSON

JOHANNESBURG — Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa, was hospitalized Saturday, the office of the country’s current president, Jacob Zuma  announced.

“Madiba has had a long-standing abdominal complaint, and doctors feel it needs proper specialist medical attention,” the statement said, using Mr. Mandela’s honorific clan name.

Mr. Mandela, who battled apartheid and spent 27 years imprisoned by the white minority government, is 93 years old, and has been in virtual seclusion for the past two years after retiring from public life eight years ago. His health is closely watched; a hospitalization in Johannesburg in January 2011 set off a panic.

Mr. Mandela’s last major public appearance was in 2010, at the final World Cup game in Johannesburg. For the past year he has spent most of his time in Qunu, the Eastern Cape village where he lived for most of his childhood.

Rumors about Mr. Mandela’s health have swirled for years, even in the days after his release from prison in 1990, when apartheid was crumbling and earnest talks between the African National Congress and the governing National Party began. His lack of bitterness toward the white minority made him a global symbol of reconciliation.

When Mr. Mandela was hospitalized last year, there was fevered speculation in the news media in the face of virtual silence from the government. Reporters spent the night outside the hospital where he had been admitted, and many feared he was at death’s door. But after two nights he was released.

Late Saturday Mr. Zuma released a new statement, saying that Mr. Mandela had undergone a diagnostic procedure and was expected to be discharged on Sunday or Monday.

“Madiba is fine and fully conscious and the doctors are satisfied with his condition, which they say is consistent with his age,” it said. “He was in good health before admission in hospital, but doctors felt the complaint needed a thorough investigation.”

It continued, “We are happy that he is not in any danger

10 Things You Want to Know About The US Presidential Elections 2012

10 Things You Want to Know About The US Presidential Elections 2012

0

It has been a while since the last presidential elections was held for the US President in 2008, where it was remembered to be a clash of the titans against Barack Obama and John McCain. It can be amazing that even though the electoral leadership will be for the United States, the whole world is anticipating the event, as the US President not only affects the lives of its citizens within the 50 states, but also all the relationships it has established with other nations. People from all over the world are watching whether Barack Obama still has the confidence of the masses, or will they have a new president sit in inside the White House? Anyway, check the 10 interesting facts and trivia about US Presidential Elections 2012

1. President Obama may Bag the Presidential Election

1

Even though the Americans are not that satisfied with the performance that President Obama gave for the last four years of his term since 2008, it can be observed that majority of the masses, including those who participate in political betting, are in favor both of the Democratic Party, and of incumbent president Barack Obama. If he bags the position, he will be the third president that would serve two terms, over the last 50 years, which includes 12 presidents.

2. Obama’s Deciding States

2

Even though incumbent president Barack Obama is the current crowd favorite, he still needs to gain the favor of over four key states that could turn the tides against him, if he does not work. Aside from Florida, which has a high dissatisfaction rating, President Obama also needs to address Ohio, Virginia, and North Carolina.

3. President Obama’s Last Term

3

As the election for President and Vice President will be held on November 6, 2012, Tuesday, this will be the last term that incumbent president Barack Obama will be running for. In case, that he wins this election and he is appointed on December 17, 2012, then this will be the last time that President Obama will be serving his term as president of the United States, having a total term of 8 years.

4. Republican Party Representative

4

The Republican Party has not decided whom to set as leader, to date, as there is a choice whether it would be Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich that will lead the party to vie for the votes against the current Democratic Party leader. However, based on the results of the primaries and caucuses from 5 states to date, which is Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, and Nevada, Mitt Romney is leading with 87 delegates against Gingrich’s 30. The winning party leader must have at least 1,144 total delegates.

5. Republican’s Winning Focus

5

In order for a Republican Party leader to win the voting, he or she needs to focus on two of the four levels of focus that comprises of preferences of individuals that can dictate their winning in the race for the 1,144 delegations. These are the social conservatives (pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-republican), the religious voters (Baptists, Presbyterians, Catholics, Mormons), the libertarians (low tax, less government, pro-market, anti-union), and the neoconvervatives that accepts foreign intervention and a better government.

6. History May Repeat Itself

6

With the recent poll done by the ABC News and Washington Post, it shows the voting difference against President Obama and Mitt Romney, a lot like what was observed in 2008 against Obama and McCain where voters are leading over 45% to 51% in favor of the incumbent president.

7. Poll Winner

7

This poll chart explains why President Barack Obama is a potential winner against Mitt Romney

8. Democratic versus Republican Members

8

These two opposing forces have been famous in the US electoral history and will be facing again this year. Although there are third-party running candidates, they are given less attention, as the Democratic and Republican parties are taking the scene. Here are the members of the said parties:

Democratic Party: Incumbent President Barack Obama, Darcy Richardson, Jim Rogers, Vermin Supreme, and Randall Terry Republican Party: Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum Third Parties: Laurence Kotlikoff, Buddy Roemer, Tiffany Briscoe, Robby Wells, Roseanne Barr, Kent Mesplay, Jill Stein, Rocky Anderson, Gary Johnson, Bill Still, RJ Harris, R. Lee Wrights, Peta Lindsay, Jack Fellure, Robert David Steele, Robert Burck, Terry Jones, and Joe Schriner

9. November 6, 2012

9

The said date falls on a Tuesday, and it has never been by chance. The Presidential Elections have always been performed on a Tuesday, which dates back since 1845 due to travelling circumstances back in the days when there were no cars. People had to use the first Monday of November to ride carriages and horses in getting to designated voting venues

10. The Republican Elephant and the Democratic Donkey

us-10

Both the political symbols have been made by editorial section cartoonist, Thomas Nast, when he used the donkey for the Democratic Party, symbolizing an anti-civil war faction in 1870. The Republican Elephant was added by the said cartoonist, labeling the elephant back in Harper’s Weekly in 1874 as “the Republican Vote”.

Steven Spielberg Net Worth : $3000 million

Steven Spielberg Net Worth : $3000 million

Steven Spielberg

Steven Allen Spielberg is an American director, screenwriting, and producer with a net worth of $3 billion and annual salary of $150 million. His name is synonymous with film and his career spans over four decades. Yet, he had humble beginnings when he was just a boy with a huge imagination and a dream. Steven was born on December 18th 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His mother Leah Adherer was a concert pianist and his father Arnold Spielberg was an electronic engineer involved in the development of computers. His childhood was spent in Haddon Heights, New Jersey and Scottsdale, Arizona. It was in Scottsdale, as a teenager, where he would create 8mm short films. Even back then Spielberg had the gall to charge 25 cents for the local kids to come and watch his many epics.

At the age of 13, young Spielberg won an award for his 40 minute film about war, called “Escape to Nowhere”. At the age of sixteen he made his first feature length film, “Firelight”, which he played at his local cinema. It was a Sci-fi which would later go on to inspire the classic “Close Encounters of the third kind”. Unfortunately, his parents would get a divorce and he moved with his father to Saratoga, California. He attended and graduated from Saratoga high school. After graduation he applied to University of Southern California School of theater, film, and television but was rejected three times. Instead he attended California State University, Long Beach.

His career did not begin until he worked at Universal Studios as an unpaid intern for the editing department. It was during this time that Spielberg directed the twenty-four minute short film, “Amblin”(a name that he would eventually carry to his production company) which caught the eye of Sidney Shainberg who was at the time vice president of production for Universal’s television division. Spielberg becomes the youngest director to ever sign a long-term contract with a major studio. He dropped out of college for the opportunity.

During his time as a television director he directed episodes of Rod Sterling’s Night Gallery, Columbo, and Marcus Welby M.D. These ventures we’re so successful that he was signed on to make four features made for television films. The first of which was the 1971 classic “Duel”. The film was such a success that he was offered the job of directing the theatrical feature film “The Sugarland Express”. The film was met with a lot of positively. But it was not until 1975 when Spielberg’s career sky rocketed with the success of “Jaws”. In 1975 it became the first blockbuster film with over 67% of Americans going to see it.
