The banks of the waterways are lush green and support the tropical vegetation. The region around is quite popular. The popularity of the region dates back to the times when Vasco De Gama, a Portuguese sailor, landed here. Not much has been changed over the centuries. Some of the oldest fishing communities of Malabar can still be found in the backdrop of spectacular water world. Clear blue sky, low lying hills spread across the horizons, calm and cool environment and more puts one in a state of trance.

A number of islands stand stranded out by the backwaters here. These small islands are inhabited by great population of birds. The Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is one such place at Kozhikode.

Backwater Experiences

The Ashtamudi Lake that spreads out in the region is a very beautiful place. The lake is intricately woven into a network of canals and waterways that provide for the water exploration.
