As we embraced the New Year with high spirit and parties amid bad weather, flood and threat of storms, a look at the various frames of nature from across the globe.

Large parts of Australia's coastal northeast were inundated around Christmas and New Year causing widespread devastation and disruption of services. The floods were caused by days of driving rain that sent rivers and streams over their banks. Authorities state that it may be a month before floodwaters dry up.

California: Trucks are partially submerged in mud after heavy rains and flooding caused homes and vehicles to be condemned from mud damage in Highland, California December 23, 2010.

Southern California saw its rainiest December in over 120 years with mud pouring from local mountains into an overwhelmed drain channel, creating a muddy mess around homes.

100 years ago, in January 1910, river Seine shocked Parisians by overflowing its banks, and flooding not only its streets, but also apartment buildings and even the metro system. Paris's much iconic river is yet again threatening to flood the city of lights.
