ICC Cricket World Cup 2011/ Misbah gets Sikander recognition

Misbah gets Sikander recognition

LAHORE: Former fast bowler Sikander Bakht has joined the debate over new ODI captain for Pakistan and has asked Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint Misbah as captain for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

The debate had started after Misbah was appointed as skipper of Pakistan test team where he performed exceptionally well in the three test matches so far and scored four fifties in five innings he played as skipper.

Sikander, who played pivotal role in Pakistan victory during New Zealand tour in 1978-79, has praised the performance of Pakistan cricket team in Hamilton Test and termed it an exceptional victory in current circumstances when Pakistan cricket is in trouble due to scandals.

Sikander believed, “added responsibility of captaincy has affected Afridi’s own performance. Pakistan lost seven series out of eight under his captaincy. Pakistan won the Twenty20 World Cup in 2009 when Afridi wasn’t captain but he played exceptionally well as a player.”Misbah1

“Afridi has failed to lead from the front and on the other hand, Misbah has taken the pressure on himself and led from the front in test matches which is more difficult form of cricket. I think Misbah is the right choice to lead Pakistan in ICC Cricket World Cup 2011,” he added.

Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas had already asked the PCB to appoint Misbah as ODI skipper of national team and now Sikander Bakht has also endorsed his views. It is pertinent to mention here that the PCB is due to announce the ODI team and skipper in next couple of days for New Zealand tour.
