majorda1 Majorda Beach lies in Salcete Taluka, just south of Utorda and north of Betalbatim. Panaji, the capital of Goa is 37 kms away from Majorda, while the important town of Margao is 10 kms away.

If you want complete peace, solitude and relaxation, far from the hustle and bustle of crowded beaches, then Goa's Majorda beach is the place to be. Here at Majorda, the tranquil ambience responds to the humming of the sea. You can pass a good time by going through your favourite books along with enjoying the superb view of the sea coloured in golden orange by the rays of the setting sun.
Apart from its unmatched beauty, Majorda village is very popular for its delicious breads, even today the Majordans are Goa's best bakers. A very interesting history is related to Majorda, it is said that Majorda is the place where the Jesuits, detected the finest Goan toddy (sap from the coconut palm), which they used in the bread. Majorda is also the village where the Goan first got the training in the delicate art of making European breads.
However, the delights of the Majorda beach are nothing new, these were discovered much earlier. In the mythic times, even the Goan version of Ramayana links Majorda to Lord Rama and Sita.

Beach Attractions

Swimming : Majorda Beach is safe for swimming but it has no lifeguard. Unless you are a strong swimmer, do not enter more than waist-deep into the sea.

Leisure Activities : When talking about leisure at Majorda, fun and food come to everyone's mind. Here, you can enjoy a wide array of Goan food, right from fresh seafood to the Schezhuan specialties and steaks along with wonderful view of the sea.

Nearby Attractions

Maede Deus Church : What you first encounter here is a statue of local lad Joaquim Fernandez, who won a Gold medal at Republic Day race in New Delhi. A must visit place at Majorda, Maede Deus Church was constructed in 1588. In 1738, the Marathas set the church on fire during their invasion of Goa. It was reconstructed in 1739.

Utorda Beach (1 km) : From Majorda, take a walk straight up the road towards Veslao, to reach Utorda, which is just one km away. Utorda beach is north of Majorda and is the northernmost beach of the Salcete Taluka. The beach boasts of Goa's best beach shack, "Zeebop on the Sea," which specializes in superlative sea food and several other Goan delicacies.

Betalbatim Beach (5 km) : To get to Betalbatim beach, continue your journey further south from Majorda. The Betalbatim village derives its name from the powerful demon, Betaal, whose temple existed at Frado Vaddo. Walk down to Church of Our Lady of Remedios, built by the Jesuits in 1630 and rebuilt in 1807. Despite the presence of a number of resorts, Betalbatim is a great place for solitude.

Best Time to Visit
majorda2 The best time to visit the Majorda beach is November to February. Though the weather remains almost same throughout the year in Goa, you should avoid the warm months of April and May and rainy season between June to October.

Where to Stay
Beachside accommodation is limited to three places - Majorda Beach Resort, Sand Dunes Holiday Resort and Shangri La Retreat. Just one km away from the beach, you can stay at Palm View Guest House. In addition to this accommodation is available in the village homes, but they are well back from the sea.

How to Reach
Majorda is situated at a distance of 26 kms from Dabolim Airport. Indian Airlines and a number of private operators have their flights for Goa, from major cities of India. You can hire a pre-paid or private taxi to reach Majorda. Margao Station (14 kms) is the nearest railhead from Majorda. From Margao and Panaji, taxis and auto are available at reasonable price. Buses leave from Margao Bus Stand to Majorda every half hour. You can travel across the town by motorcycle taxis or bikes which are easily available on hire.
