Admission procedure/cycle (month/date)

You will be considered for undergraduate admission to the University of Sydney if you meet its minimum eligibility criteria. If you are studying one of the following qualifications, then you should apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC):

• An Australian Year 12 qualification (for example, NSW HSC, VCE, SA Matriculation) either inside or outside of Australia
• The International Baccalaureate in Australia or overseas in the current year
• The New Zealand Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 in New Zealand.

If you are NOT studying any of the above qualifications in the current year, you should apply directly to the University of Sydney. For details (including eligibility criteria), refer to the university's official website.

Postgraduate coursework programmes also require you to meet the minimum eligibility criteria for admission. There are two ways for postgraduate international students to apply to study at the University of Sydney. Choose which option is most suitable for you.

• Apply direct to the university: International students can apply direct to the university from anywhere in the world via our online application form. Simply register with the 'apply online application' service, select your preferred course, complete the application form and upload all relevant supporting documentation. Alternatively, you can download and complete an application form and submit it via mail, fax or email.

Standard application closing dates for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programmes:

1. Students applying for March Semester (sem1): Application has to be lodged and acknowledged by the International Student office before 31 October of the previous year*
2. Students applying for July Semester (sem2): Application has to be lodged and acknowledged by the International Student office before 30 April*

Applying for and obtaining admission to a research degree is a process that requires time and preparation before submission of the application. Incomplete or ill-prepared applications will take longer to process or may be rejected by the relevant faculty or department.

The university requires that you contact a suitable member of the academic staff of the university and present them with an initial proposal outlining your proposed topic of research before submitting your application for admission.

When you contact a member of the academic staff, you should provide them with some initial details to help them advise you regarding your study plans.
In general, your proposal should be no more than 500 words in length. However, some faculties such as Law and Economics and Business prefer a more detailed written proposal.

Once you have identified an academic contact/ potential supervisor and prepared a research proposal, you should fill out the research application form.

There is a long list of scholarships listed on the official website, which have funded the study of international students at the University of Sydney in the past. However, it is not a list of every scholarship that may be available throughout the world.

Students are encouraged to look for funding from any source available to them. For example, you may be able to find further scholarship information from companies, universities in your home country, the Australian mission in your home country, by searching the internet, etc.
