STANFORD

History
The Leland Stanford Junior University, commonly referred to as Stanford University or Stanford, is a private research university located in Stanford, California, United States with a strong emphasis on scientific, technological and social science research. The university is located on an 8,180-acre campus in northwestern Santa Clara Valley.

The university is organized into seven schools including academic schools of Humanities and Sciences and Earth Sciences as well as professional schools of Business, Education, Engineering, Law, and Medicine.

Courses offered
Three of Stanford's seven schools offer undergraduate and graduate programs: Earth Sciences, Engineering and Humanities & Sciences. The other four offer graduate programs: Business, Education, Law and Medicine.

Admission procedure/cycle (month/date)
The university puts up an academic calendar every year on its official website.

Scholarships offered
Scholarship from Stanford is the primary source of funding used to assist students with meeting their educational costs. Many university scholarship funds originate as gifts from individuals and corporations. All university scholarship funds are need-based. Individual scholarship eligibility is determined by subtracting family contribution and other aid funds from the total student budget.

Another way to cover the Student Responsibility portion of the financial aid package is to obtain outside scholarships. Outside scholarships will reduce Student Responsibility dollar-for-dollar. Only if outside scholarships exceed Student Responsibility will the university scholarship be reduced.

Most graduate students at Stanford need help to pay for their educational expenses. Sources of funding range from government agencies, employers and foundations to academic departments and schools. Grants, Scholarships and Fellowships are "free money" that does not need to be repaid upon completion of enrollment.

Presence in India
The goal of Stanford-India Biodesign is to train the next generation of medical technology innovators in India. This is facilitated through a fellowship, internships and events.

Funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, Stanford University, and other supporters, the SIB Fellowship Program is centered in New Delhi and administered as a collaboration between Stanford University, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in partnership with the Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF). In future years, the fellowship and associated teaching programs will be developed in other centers in India. Fellows receive tuition, stipend, and international travel support (for trips required for the fellowship).
