The OUTLOOK-MDRA opinion poll for the forthcoming assembly elections in the state of Tamilnadu indicate that AIADMK headed by Dr. J.Jaylalithaa will be back in power according to 54% of the people.
AIADMK has formed an alliance with DMDK (a party led by a popular former film star Vijaykanth). In the previous state election, DMDK was not part of any alliance and had won a single seat. However, it had garnered a vote share of ~8%, which is quite significant. Therefore, the DMDK-AIADMK alliance could meaningfully hurt DMK’s prospects. Another strong factor in support is, since 1984, DMK and AIADMK have led the government alternately.
Rampant Corruption together with high Inflation is likely to hurt the Congress DMK alliance. Alleged involvement of former telecom minister A. Raja (member of DMK party) in the 2G scam has hurt the party’s image.
