Over No. 10 - Tim Southee bowls to Sangakkara. Tapped into the leg side and Sanga takes a single. New Zealand would b aiming to bowl some tight overs here and pressurize the Lankans. Southee is certainly bowling a neat line . He shouldn't spoil it by giving a free-hit ball. Allan Donald meanwhile is hooked onto the action from the boundary lines. Appeal from Southee but nothing from Aleem Dar. That was a quick bouncer and Dilshan had no clue. Great stuff. Just one run from the over. 47-1
Over No. 9 - Now Jacob Oram introduced into the Kiwi bowling attack. Huge shout from Brendon McCullum but the ball's going leg. Suffocating line and length from Oram and Dilshan cannot free his arms for a big hit. Lovely work Jake!, shouts the keeper. Maiden over from Oram. Good start. 46-1
Over No. 8 - Tim Southee is back and no that high-rising bouncer was not given a wide. He bowled it first up to Tharanga. What a catch! Jesse Ryder you beauty! That was a screamer! Tharanga rockets the ball and Ryder flies to take a Superman catch. They needed this one. Kiwis are pulling off all the great grabs in this World Cup. Oram took Kallis' and it changed the match. Can this Ryder catch turn the tables for New Zealand? Tharanga was playing so well he would have thought the ball was booked for the boundary. Sanga walks in. Too full from Southee on the pads and Dilshan creams it for a boundary. 46-1
Over No. 7 - McCullum bowls and Dilshan sweeps. The ball was close to the leg slip position. But its given byes. So no gloves from Dilshan. Super shot again! And yes you guessed it right it's Tharanga again. He's switched on for this game! McCullum and Dilshan had a bit of a mini-clash earlier in the over and the umpires cut short their babble. 40-0
Over No. 6 - Vettori bowls. Sharp turn from Vettori but Tharanga is up to it. Rocks back and cuts for two runs. Ohs and ahs. Tharanga missed the ball and Kiwis let out a sigh. Another booming shot through the covers but the fielder stops it. Five from the over. 34-0
Over No. 5 - 194 runs to win in 46 overs. Thats the equation now. McCullum chugs into bowl. NZ need to get an early wicket otherwise the way Tharanga is playing Lanka may get home pretty soon. Whats more Dilshan has not fired till now and still Lanka are off to a brisk start. Down the wicket and its gone for yet another four from Tharanga's bat. That was near the fielder but Tharanga cracked it so hard the poor guy had no chance. 29-0
Over No. 4 - Dilshan and Tharanga have scored 743 runs together in the WC till now. Their best effort was 282 runs against Zimbabwe. Meanwhile Vettori bowls and his third ball is shot through the covers for four by Tharanga. Tharanga has got off to a fiery start, without really slogging the ball. He is more of a touch player and he has played some sweetly timed shots here. 24-0
Over No. 3 - McCullum bowls and a leg slip comes into play. More pressure from New Zealand. No leg slip for Tharanga though. McCullum was lucky to get that freaky dismissal of Hashim Amla. How lucky will he be here? Tossed up and a single of the last ball. 20-0
Over No. 2 - Tim Southee bowls. One slip in position and bit of curve on the ball. Thats interesting. Rappedon the pads but thats going down the leg. It came in sharply. Southee has been New Zealand's top bowler in this World Cup with 15 wickets. They need him firing today. Steady line from him till now. We expect another super show in the fielding department from NZ. They were rocking against the Saffers. Thats gone through the extra cover. Tharanga is in super touch. Classical stuff from the left-hander. Bad bowling. On the leg side and a couple of byes. NZ can't afford to give free runs. Belter of a shot from Tharanga straight down the ground. That ball raced to the fence. Sleek batting from him. He looks in Rolls-royce mode. 18-0
Over No. 1 - Nathan bowls. Right on the money the first two balls. The third ball and bang bang! Tharanga comes down the wicket and lifts it straight down the ground for six. Now that showed Lanka's positive intent! What a stunner and it came all of a sudden after Tharanga blocked the first two balls. Good positive start for Lanka. 6-0
The umpires are on the field as Dilshan and Tharanga take their respective positions. Looks like Nathan McCullum is going to open the bowling. Yes he has the ball now. McCullum also opened the bowling against South Africa. Righto! Lets get started with all the action.

Lankan bowlers have done a fine job and now it's up to the batsmen to deliver the knockout punch and grab the final spot. Sri Lanka had chased down that target against England with no sweat at all. Will it be the same story again tonight or will the Kiwis do what they did to the South Africans at Mirpur while defending a similar total. We will know during the second session. This performance of NZ is 12 runs short of what England had achieved at the same venue the other night in the quarterfinal.
2 wickets in 2 balls for Mendis. And what a dramatic turnaround at Premadasa. NZ have collapsed from 192 for 4 in the 43 overs to 217 for 9.
Over No.49 - Mendis into his last. So, safe to assume it will be Malinga bowling the last should the inning get there. Can the Kiwis get some precious runs? No, they won't. Southee takes NZ target further southwards as he fails to read a Mendis leg-cutter. And that is followed by a quicker one that rattles the stumps of the last man Andy McKay. Vettori stranded at the other end as NZ fold up for just 217.
Over No.48 - Dilshan given the ball, which is a bit of surprise as Herath has 1, Mendis 1 and Malinga 1. So, someone will have to miss out. It could be a decision based on the fact that Oram and Vettori are both left-handed batsmen. The gamble pays off for Sangakkara as Oram holes out. Oram gone for 7 from 9 balls. NZ 216 for 8
Over No.47 - Muralidaran and his career's last over in Sri Lanka!!! A great one from the greatest ambassador for Lankan cricket. And he ends on a high. Picks up what could end up being the match-winning wicket. That of Scott Styris. Big big one that could deny New Zealand the final flurry. Styris gone LBW to Murali for 57 off 77 balls. NZ struggle at 213 for 7

Over No.46 - Malinga into his 9th over. He bowled a dream last over and captain Sangakkara will be hoping his trumpcard will deliver again. And he does with his very first ball of the over. Nathan McCullum caught behind for 9. Superb over again Malinga. His last two overs have gone for just 8 runs and he has picked up 2 wickets as well. Great stuff. NZ 210 for 6
Over No.45 - Murali into his 9th now. He was smashed for 2 boundaries in the previous over. But, with Williamson gone, he can breathe easy. But only in his dreams as Styris is still out in the middle and he is capable of inflicting quite a bit of damage and the new man in for NZ, the junior McCullum is no mean either with the bat. He smacked one straight over covers for a six and NZ sail past 200-run mark. What a good over again for the batting side. NZ 204 for 5
Over No.44 - The first two batting powerplay overs have fetched 21 runs. Great start for NZ. Just what the doctor ordered. Sri Lanka under pressure and so is Malinga. He hasn't had a great day yet. His 7 overs have gone for 49. Can he come back strongly in his final 3 overs? What a good start in pursuit of that mission for Malinga. He traps the dangerous Williamson bang in front. Williamson gone for a cameo 22 off just 16 balls. Malinga's confidence returns and completes a superb over. Just 2 from it and a big wicket as well. NZ 192 for 5
Over No.43 - Murali into the attack. Will Styris launch into the world's greatest off-spinner? Instead, Williamson takes on the wily old fox. Two big boundaries for Kane. His strike rate is a stunner. 21 from just 14 . Another great batting powerplay over for NZ. 190 for 4.
Over No.42 - 54 legitimate deliveries to go. How many can NZ get and will that many be enough? And the good news for NZ is that they have taken the batting powerplay. That is an interesting move. There isn't Jacob Oram yet in the middle. Lasith Malinga, as expected gets the cherry. He can be devastating. Batting powerplay has almost invariably worked for bowling teams in this competition so far and will it be the same case again? Great run-out opportunity messed up by the Lankans. Why was Malinga shying away from the stumps? Will the Lankans pay a heavy price for it? They well might as the next ball is smashed over the in-field for a big boundary by Williamson. Making matters worse is the next ball bowled over the waist and it only adds to Malinga's woes. Great first over of batting powerplay for NZ. 11 from it. NZ 180 for 4
Over No.41 - Good period this for Sri Lanka. They have caught the Kiwis in two minds. If they go for it now, they could even get bowled out for 210 or so but if they play slow, they could manage fewer than they actually should be. Big dilemma. Herath into his 9th and keeps Styris watchful every time he threatens to step out. Excellent nagging over this one by Herath. Just 4 runs from it. Styris goes past another half century. Good effort from the veteran. NZ 169 for 4
Over No.40 - When will NZ start thinking of acceleration? Maybe now. Maybe after they reach aroudn 200. We will know. Now is the answer as Taylor goes for a big one against Mendis and holes out to Tharanga at deep midwicket. What a big wicket that is for Lanka! Taylor gone for 36 from 55 balls. Timely over from Mendis. Sri Lanka look to tighten screws. NZ struggling at 165 for 4.
Over No.39 - As expected Dilshan off the attack and now comes Herath. He has 2 more to go after this over. Expect him to complete his spell here. The key for Sri Lanka will be the 4 overs of Malinga. Some inspirational fielding by Dilshan on more than an occasion keeps the Kiwis at bay in this over. Just 2 came from it. NZ 161 for 3
Over No.38 - Mendis continues. Styris playing a little gem. He has stepped up the tempo in this over and needed a great diving save from Mathews to deny him a boundary. Very useful over though for NZ. This partnership is worth 75 runs from 16 overs. Great going. NZ 159 for 3
Over No. 37 - Fourteen overs to go. Malinga has 4, Murali has 3, Mendis has 3 and Herath has 3. One more needed from someone else and it is Dilshan, who is now bowling this one. It has gotten fairly gloomy though. Good over from Dilshan. Just 4 from it. NZ 153 for 3
Over No.36 - Last couple of overs have been reasonably quiet. Pressure starting to build a bit on the Kiwis but they just do not need to do anything silly. They have rotated the strike splendidly and by simply doing that, they can reach somewhere like 250, which should be reasonably competetive. Good start to the over as Styris dances down the track and smashes a half-volley for a crisp boundary. That should sure relieve some pressure. NZ 149 for 3
Over No.35 - Murali off and Herath brought into the attack. NZ wouldn't mind this. But, the left-armer has bowled a good line and length. He rushes through his comeback over. Just 3 from it. NZ 142 for 3
Ground staff are hopping around quite a bit. Is there some rain round the corner? And is that why NZ are playing quite aggressively?
Over No.34 - This is an excellent period of play for New Zealand. Never had it so good in the mid overs like they have had in this game and the previous one against South Africa. Malinga continues and bowls superb low full-tosses again. He had conceded a couple of boundaries last over and how exquisitely he has come back in this one. Just 2 from it. NZ 139 for 3

Over No. 33 - Murali bowls. Will Sanga look to bowl him out? Murali has been miserly again. 137-3 and drinks break is upon us.
Over No. 32 - Ross Taylor changes his thigh pad and some drinks provide relief in the heat and humidity of Colombo. Righto! Back to cricket now as Malinga steams in. Interesting stat Malinga-Styris 13 balls and 11 runs as of now. Bounced short and Styris swivels and pull it for a boundary! That was most brilliantly done! He kept it down well. NZ need Styris tro play a long innings here and stay there at least till 45 overs. A bit of reverse for Malinga as the ball swerved in. Lovely shot beautiful booming drive and thats scampered to the fence. Fifty stand up between Taylor and Styris. 134-3
Over No. 31 - Murali bowls now. So both the M's are in action now. Both of them are bowling well and Lanka is leaving no stone unturned to get one more wicket here. The web of spin is at work. Another tight over. 124-3
Over No. 30 - Mendis into the attack. He has taken 18 wickets in 15 games in Colombo. And till now he has given runs at the rate of 2.63 per over in this match. This is good move to get him going. A short mid-on in place for Mendis. 122-3
Over No. 29 - Last 5 overs NZ have scored 29 runs @ 5.80. Not bad at all. Dilshan bowls his tweakers. Styris was batting well against South Africa untill Morkel bowled him. He looked good in his brief innings in Mirpur. Over ends and its 118-3
Over No. 28 - Malinga is off the attack and ha walked off the pitch as Herath bowls.Appeal from him! No review though. Sanga did not seem confident. TV replays show, the ball struck him on the line. 113-3
Over No. 27 - Dilshan has been brought into the Lankan attack. He bowled a stingy line against England in the quarter-finals. Sanga is hoping for a similar effort from him. 6-1-25-1 were his figures in the England game. That lone wicket was of Eng captain Andrew Strauss. 109-3
Over No. 26 - Malinga bowls. Much needed boundary for NZ. Fullish volley by Malinga and Styris makes optimal use of the delivery. Another boundary from Styris straight down the wicket. That was supremely timed. Two boundaries from the over. 102-3
Over No.25 - Important stage of the match. NZ will not only have to weather the storm but also keep rotating strike. Change of bowling. Muralidaran has been taken off and it is Tilakaratne Dilshan coming on. What a wonderful spell it was from Murali! Can Dilshan keep up the Lankan tempo by stifling the scoring rate? Over No. 24 - Malinga continues. 37% of Malinga's wickets in ODIs have come after clean bowling batsmen. That is the story of devastation from Malinga in 50-over cricket. A Malinga is hunting with is yorker and Styris almost gave him one. 90 for 3
Over No. 23 - Murali is bowling now. Two of Lanka's most lethal bowlers are operating now. Lankans are sensing another kill here. That was to close to cut. Superb over from Murali no run from it. 84-3
Over No. 22 - Change of bowling and the ball is in the hands of Malinga the slinga. A thick edge and the ball racers for four to the third man fence. Taylor was late on that one. Unlucky for Malinga. Gone! Slinga strikes! Yorker cleans up Guptill! Thats sent the crowd roaring. Sanga's move has paid off. Styris has come into the middle. That shattered Guptill's furniture. Malinga pumps his fists in the air! Get ready Mr. Styris. Zuuup! That baffled Styris. Great over from Malinga! 84-3
Over No. 21 - Murali bowls and Guptill has opened his stance a bit to tackle him. He is working his magic here and stifling the Kiwis. Edge off Taylor's bat. That was a doosra from Murali and Taylor didn't pick it up. Well bowl Murali. 79-2
Over No. 20 - Two right-handers in and superb bit of captaincy from Sanga as he introduces left-arm spinner Herath. Sanga knows the importance of Taylor's wicket. Uneventful over. 74-2
Over No. 19 - Murali comes into the attack. He surely doesn't look 100% fit. Gone! Hobbling or not hobbling, Murali takes a wicket again! And it is Jesse Ryder. Crucial breakthrough for Sri Lanka. Ryder is a gamechanger as he showed us against South Africa in the quarterfinals. And Ross Taylor walks into the middle. That Murali delivery was too close to cut and Murali is overjoyed. Ryder was Murali's 533rd ODI wicket. 72-2

Over No.18 - Last over before the drinks break and what a good over by Mendis. He continues to have the New Zealand batsmen in two minds. Incisive stuff. Last five overs have produced only 11 runs. NZ 68 for 1
Over No.17 - Just 5 from the last 3 overs. Some pressure building up again. Last time when such a situation arose, Ryder broke the shackles with some lusty hits and will he do it again? Not really as this time it is the man with 532 international wickets bowling. Never easy to get Murali away and the Kiwis are discovering that today. 67 for 1
Over No.16 - Good over rate from the Lankans. 15 done in the first hour. So, hopefully no overtime at the end of the first inning tonight. Mendis continues. He did get his confidence back with a solid last over and he would be hoping to build on the good work. Sri Lankan fielding has been fairly sharp so far today unlike what happened against England the other afternoon when there were many howlers. Good over from Mendis. Just 2 from it. NZ 62 for 1
Over No. 15 - And here comes the big moment for Sri Lanka. Could well be the decisive one. Muthaiah Muralidaran being brought into the attack. A very gentle over from the smiling assassin. He is coming around the wicket. All eyes on his fitness though. Testing first over from him. NZ 60 for 1
Over No.14 - Some pressure on Mendis as he comes in for his 3rd over. Sri Lanka are not too pleased about this partnership and the unnecessary runs they have been leaking in recent overs. A tight over though from Mendis but he is hardly getting any spin. Lankans will need to bring in Murali asap. Just 1 from the over. NZ 58 for 1
Over No.13 - Mathews into his 6th over. Clearly looks like Sanga wants to use him at one end and spin at the other as this is still powerplay time. Ryder lofts one over covers for a wonderful boundary. That was a slower ball by Mathews and at his pace, it was easy picking for the in-form Ryder. Good over for NZ. 7 from it. They are moving along nicely. 57 for 1
Over No.12 - Mendis continues. Last 4 overs had produced only 9 runs. Some pressure starting to build up marginally on the Kiwis. Jesse Ryder is fully aware of it and slams the first ball of the over to the boundary and that should ease them up a bit. Effortless over yet it produces NZ 8 runs. They move to 50 for 1.
Over No.11 - Current scoring rate at 3.7 for NZ and they have 9 wickets in hand. Decent platform but they shouldn't get ultra-cautious. They need to keep rotating strike. Otherwise, Sri Lanka will sense their way back into this one quite easily. Mathews continues. He is into his 5th over. Another good over from him. Just 3 from it. Mathews 5-0-20-0. NZ 42 for 1
Over No. 10 - Ajanta Mendis brought into the attack. He enjoys bowling on this surface. He has picked up 18 wickets from 15 matches on this track. And he has been bowling well in this world cup. A very tidy first over from the mystery spinner. Just 1 from it. NZ losing momentum somewhat. 38 for 1
Over No. 9 - Sri Lanka will now be trying to pull back things. Mathews continues. Clearly Sangakkara wants to get at least 6 or 7 overs out of him. There was a scare when Malinga dives to stop the ball and has a fairly awkward landing. Sri Lankan hearts would have been in their mouths when that happened but thankfully from their perspective, it looks alright. Good tight over by Mathews. Just 3 from it. NZ 37 for 1
Over No.8 - Herath into his 4th over. Huge pressure on him as McCullum had hit him for a 6 and a 4 last over. And what a response from the Lankan spinner! He clean bowls McCullum off the first ball of the over. It was a bad shot by the New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman and he pays a heavy price for it. McCullum out for 13 from 21 balls.Jesse Ryder comes in. The burly southpaw played a major role in that big triumph over South Africa where he played a patient inning to help the Kiwis to respectability. He will need to repeat his act again today. Over No. 7 - Tremendous start this for NZ. Don't forget, they have the second best score batting first in this world cup. 358 against Canada. Just shows there is plenty of potential in that batting line-up and they only need to get going. Mathews bowls a quiet over giving away just 3 singles. 32 without loss
Over No. 6 - Good solid start for New Zealand. Certainly looks like they have learnt from England's insipid performance just a couple of days ago at the same venue. Great start to the over as McCullum launches into Herath for a mighty six. That is followed by a beauty from the left-arm spinner, which traps McCullum in front but the ball was always gonna miss the off-stump. And what does the New Zealand wicket-keeper do next? Slams the last ball of the over straight down the ground for another boundary. Super over for the Kiwis. NZ 29 for no loss
Over No. 5 - Mathews continues. Good to see Sanga keeping the faith. After seeing the Herath over, one would have thought spin at both ends. Guptill continues to impress with a solid shot straight down the ground for a classy boundary. He is scoring at almost a run-a-ball. Another good over for the Kiwis. Sri Lanka fail to break the opening partnership after 5 overs. NZ 20 for no loss.
Over No. 4 - Herath continues and is bowling a very good line and length. Just drawing the batsmen into shots. Very good over. Might just prompt Sangakkara to think of spin at the other end as well. Wonderful over by Herath. A maiden. NZ 16 without loss.
Over No.3 - There we go! Malinga's dislike for the new ball sees him off the attack and in comes Angelo Mathews. Little surprising this move. And the first ball finds its way to the boundary rope as Muralidaran hesitantly dives in to stop but clearly looks uncomfortable. Very productive over for New Zealand. The Kiwis are off to a very good start as Mathews constantly sprays it on to the pads of the batsmen. 7 from the over. NZ 16 without loss.
Over No. 2 - Rangana Herath given the new ball. That is quite interesting as there is nothing in this wicket suggesting there is going to be plenty on offer early on for the tweakers of the cricket ball. But, who cares! Early spin has almost become a norm in this world cup. Brendon McCullum on strike and straightaway launches into Herath and comfortably clears in-field. Excellent over for NZ again. 9 without loss
Over No. 1 - Lasith Malinga to start the proceedings for Sri Lanka at the full and noisy Premadasa. Much will be expected from him. He doesn't enjoy bowling with the new ball and there is a certain bit of pressure on him. Martin Guptill on strike. Good first over for the game of cricket. Good teasing deliveries outside the off-stump yet Guptill waited for that one loose ball on the pads, which he flicked past mid-wicket for a good boundary. Confident start for the Kiwis.
